I can feel it

I’ve been poking at things all day. First it was a nice glob of dead skin that loosened up in my implanted ear. Probably a cross between surgery and just not wearing an earmold for a few days.

Then my bandage started sliding down over my eyes and my hair is slipping around it in many placed. Like a little girl who wears the same braid for a few days, it gets messy.

Well just now I was running my fingers along my scalp above the bandage and hey, there’s a bump here. That’s weird. It’s definitely not matched on the other side.

Turns out that’s the implant. I’d guess it is an inch or so above the top of my ear but I can’t tell because the bandage still covers my whole ear. I guess I didn’t realize that it could be so far above the incision and my skin was stretched down over it.

Well I guess they did something to me after all. Though Don’s response to that is “I could put a lump on your head!”

I haven’t touched my head where the implant is… I wouldn’t dare to. I can wait, though. How you feeling today? Sometimes all I feel is an itch behind my ear, other times it feels like I’ve been clubbed over the head… most of the time it’s in between.

By the way, I had my mom clap behind my ear… could only hear it with my left ear. Goodbye residual hearing in my right ear.

-twitch- A big glob of dead skin? -twitch twitch- I can’t say this enough, but you are one strong woman! I could never cut myself open like that. Icky. I’m queasy!

    Okay, off that!

I'm a 30-something year old girl originally from upstate NY and now living in central Virginia. My background is in mechanical engineering and I worked full time as an engineer for 8 years. In 2010 I quit my job and started a laser engraving business.

I lost my hearing at age 14 and have been using hearing aids since then. In April 2009 I received my first cochlear implant. That went really well so in December 2009 I got the second. The CIs are what prompted me to start writing publicly - but I try to cover other things as well.
