My audie told me that the reason they wait a month after surgery to activate is they want to wait till all the swelling is completely gone. Otherwise, the swelling will affect how things sound, and when the swelling goes down over time, the sound will change so they have to adjust the program over again. If they wait till all the swelling goes away, then they wouldn't need to overhaul the program so the learning curve will be more stable.

Sara, what an awesome update! :) I love reading about how the different companies do their software, I think it's really interesting. I'm glad the new map helped with some of those cringe-worthy noises.

I had to LOL at your boss turning the phone to face you. That sounds like something my old boss would've done. (This is the lady who put me as backup on the switchboard when she knew I had a hearing loss!)

I saw your comment on my 'Sick Hearing' post and you're right, I wonder if internal swelling affects how things sound? Maybe you'll notice some big changes after about 4-6 weeks from your surgery. I didn't get activated until 4 weeks after surgery so I can't compare, but I know I still had swelling where the magnet attaches for at least another month after activation. All things I never thought about before...pretty cool!

BTW, I *love* your red processor and magnet -- what a great color!! :)
