So far, so good

Had my second CI surgery today and am now bilateral. I missed my pre-op appointment due to being snowed in from the storm Friday and Saturday with no plows in sight on my street. I was pretty worried but when I called to tell them they said just come for surgery, they could do everything then if I could get there. And by Tuesday morning my street had been cleared (72 hours later!). This actually worked out nice because I’d have had to stay down there from Monday to now for what clearly was an unessential visit. Anyway, things went fine, about 3 hours, very minimal pain after and no percocet at all. I made a somewhat conscious effort to look awake and the nurse asked if I wanted to go home and if I wanted my clothes. After that I stayed awake. It seemes...

The Future of Work

The Future of Work

Getting sick of these posts yet? 🙂 I keep posting them because this is something I feel strongly about. I enjoy my job but I don’t enjoy being tied to a desk all day. I want a job that encourages me to work efficiently and lets me decide the best way, place and time to do that. I’d like to be self-employed, but haven’t come up with the right way to do that yet. Last night I was at dinner with my boss and another colleague. My boss said he doesn’t see himself ever retiring ever. He enjoys working and wouldn’t know what he would do instead. I offered him my job. I’d love to retire. They picked on me for that, saying “You’ve only been working 8 years, eight? What would you DO?” Oh, I could come up with...

Slides In A Flash

Slides In A Flash

Let’s start with a photo: These slide carousels have been sitting there for over a year now. Where did they come from?  Well, I have a home business called Slides In A Flash where I convert old slide photos to digital images.  Last summer I had a lovely man say he was going to send me ten carousels… he sent 35!  He didn’t want them back either, so I kept them.  Unfortunately, they don’t seem to have much value.  eBay even has it’s own category for slide trays. So, I just posted an ad on freecycle to see if I can give them away. For my business I will hang on to 4 or 5 of them.  I use them to automate the process I have… but I don’t need 30 extras, and it would be nice to get that room clean. As for Slides In A...

Summer’s moving right along

Summer’s moving right along

Where does the time go? July 4th weekend my parents stopped to visit us here in Charlottesville.  I had a band concert that Thursday night and another on the morning of the Fourth of July at Monticello.  It’s always moving to see the naturalization ceremony conducted.  Last year the guest speaker was the president (which one? not important. ;)) and security was tight. The helicopters flew right over our house to land at Monticello and the band had to be there hours and hours early.  This year was much more calm.  My parents and I actually drove ourselves and parked at the visitor center. By the end of that concert a lot of us were quite burned out on marches. Especially Sousa!  But the audiences were very appreciative. It wasn’t very hot here...

And now for something Completely different

I would much rather write blog posts about things that make me laugh.  Such as this kitten video:
