MED-EL Video: How A Cochlear Implant Works

This is one of my favorite videos about cochlear implants – especially the part about the damaged hairs and when a hearing aid won’t help… After the ‘how it works’ part there are three testimonials from people who chose the MED-EL brand. I’m sure every brand has people willing to go on camera and oooh and ahh over their implant. I had to break it into 2 parts to get YouTube to accept it. The subtitles got a bit fuzzy too, I hope they are legible.

Also apparently the sound on the 2nd video is the same as the first. I don’t know how that happen unless Quicktime didn’t crop the sound when it cropped the video. I might be able to fix it, but until then, turn the sound off and read the subtitles.

Interesting videos. But the sound in part 2 is the same as part 1. Not sure how that works!

How are you finding battery life? Does one charge get you through the day? With the AB, I’m finding that it lasts a shade over 2 days … which makes me think I could get by with a smaller, sleeker battery as there are two sizes to choose from.

Well today was my first day back at work, and of course I forgot to bring a battery or to change it before I left… I have 3 rechargeables and they last 10-12 hours. I haven’t been keeping track, but not a whole day on a single one. They are tiny and about half the weight of the 3 disposables.

I'm a 30 year old girl originally from upstate NY. I work full time as an engineer and try to pack as many hobbies into the other 14 hours of my day as I can. I lost my hearing at age 14 and have been using hearing aids since then. In April 2009 I received my first cochlear implant. That went really well so in December 2009 I got the second. The CIs are what prompted me to start writing publicly - but I try to cover other things as well.
